'Lepus the Easter Hare' Story Card

‘One frosty Spring morning, Ostara came across a tiny bird, shivering in the forest and in grave peril. Ostara took sympathy on the sweet creature and saved its life by transforming it into a hare. The Ostara hare had a magical connection to the moon. Ostara granted the hare a wish. He asked that he might keep his ability to lay eggs. Ostara nodded and gave him the gift of laying the most beautiful eggs in all the land. The hare lived a long and happy life, creating the most stunning pieces for the little village he came to love, near his home in the woodland.

At the end of his life when he was tired and old, Ostara reappeared. To show gratitude for all his kindness and creativity to the little village, she turned him into Lepus, the great star constellation. She allowed him each easter to return to earth to gift his beautiful eggs to people all over the world.’
